Spotify introduces AI-generated artwork to colour up your playlists!

Recently, Cream published a gallery of glorious animated album artwork: a trend that is seeing the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and even Paul McCartney up the ante in creating cool moving artwork to match their music releases.
Now we hear that Spotify is allowing users to generate AI-created art for their playlists by simply having you pick a playlist and letting artificial (and arty!) intelligence analyse what pic best suits the list.
The image generation tool works by selecting a track from that playlist and analysing certain attributes which relate to the style of music such as laid-back vibes, danceability and energy levels.
Based on these attributes, the tool generates certain text prompts which are run through the AI to generate the image. Users can then apply the image to their playlist or share their artwork to platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
I tested it on a playlist of just five tracks and it came up with this:

Which is fairly spot-on considering the tracks on my list included Laurie Anderson’s Coolsville, Demi Lovato’s Lionheart and a remix of Kylie’s Padam Padam. I’d say the art was very cool/lovey/Padam-y.
Of course, with Spotify playlists you always have the option of uploading your own artwork – and maybe, just maybe, this campaign has been created to deter listeners from uploading crappy art, but I reckon it’s very much a nice touch
Who doesn’t want to add a little colour to their music-listening experience?
Test the AI magic here.
