THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

Perth Horror Film Festival pairs fresh short horror and sci-fi films alongside classic features

Quite the toddler on the film circuit, the Annual Perth Horror Film Festival is nonetheless one you’ve got to mark on your calendars if the horror genre is something you’re hooked on.

The 3-day event is held at The Backlot Perth in West Perth, and pairs short horror and science fiction films alongside classic feature presentations, making for a great experience for both filmmakers and audiences.

The main focus is to showcase incredible West Australian genre films and filmmakers, providing networking opportunities while providing a platform to filmmakers who deserve to have their work seen on the big screen.

The opening night feature will be Caligari 100 in which an all-new score has been added to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the 1920 German horror film directed by Robert Wiene. Perth-based musician Ben Penfold-Marwick has created an eerie black metal score to accompany the silent horror classic, making it fresh viewing for even the most ardent horror fan.

The Annual Perth Horror Film Festival is presented by Perth Horror Fans, on Friday 18th to Sunday 20th of August at The Backlot Perth. See full program and ticketing here.
