THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

New Smirnoff soda range has your Spring & Summer social drinking sorted

Back in the late ’80s I used to go to the drive-ins on Friday nights with a bunch of friends from school. It wasn’t the movies I was looking forward to so much as a night drinking ready-mixed spirits from cans. You could enjoy a voddie, lime and soda, or a scotch and cola, without the fuss of mixing it yourself and with full flavour.

Soon, though, ready-to-drink bevvies (or RTDs) took a back seat for us school-leavers – and indeed for the general social drinking set, until now…

Smirnoff has unveiled an array of RTDs with vodka and soda as the main ingredients and we must say they’re so much better than the rough-and-ready cans from the late ’80s.

The new line of Smirnoff bevvies includes three sodas infused with real fruit juice and two Smirnoff Hard Sodas.

The new sodas are available in three flavours – Lime & Lemon, Peach & Lime, and Pineapple & Lime. My favourite is the latter, with not too strong a pineapple flavour so that it doesn’t overtake the good vodka.

All three flavours are made with real fruit juice, are low in sugar, and lower in calories than the many other RTDs available at the bottl’o. Indeed, each soda boasts less than 100 calories per can (note: 3.5% ABV).

As for the hard sodas, these come in two flavours: Yuzu Citrus Burst and Pink Grapefruit Crush – which are 140 calories per can as well as low in sugar.

So there’s your summer social drinking sorted. There may not be many drive-ins left in Australia to enjoy Friday night drinks in the back seat of your mates’ beat-up Holden. But at least we can down a few Smirnoff ready-mixed sodas and relish the memories.

Smirnoff Sodas and Smirnoff Hard Sodas are available in 4-pack or 24-can case from quality liquor outlets such as Dan Murphys.
