The new ‘Ghostbusters’ trailer just dropped and its characters are literally being scared to death

In the trailer for the new Ghostbusters film, Frozen Empire, Bananarama’s Cruel Summer plays in the background to scenes of fun and sunshine on the beach. Twenty seconds in and the song melts to a stop as a sinsister storm arrives and the coast along with the rest of the city, quite literally, freezes over.
Suddenly a sinister force called ‘The Death Chill’ takes over, killing people using fear as its fuel. To fix this who you gonna call? Ghostbusters, of course. Help is needed by the team to put things right since human veins are turning to “rivers of ice”, bones are snapping, and the last thing victims see is their own tear ducts freezing up. Yep, this one is as dark as a Ghostbusters film can get.
The film is Jason Reitman’s much-anticipated follow-up to the 2021 sequel, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’. Incidentally, Jason is the son of the late Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films in the franchise in the 1980s, so it’s very much a family affair.
The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, alongside veterans Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton reprising their characters from the earlier films.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire looks like making a subtle (or not-so-subtle) remark on how climate change can drastically change the human way of living, especially if we don’t drive out the bad forces of it. As for the special effects in this film, well, they blow all previous ones out the water. Quite literally.
‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ will hit cinemas on March 28, 2024.
