THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

These are the ‘luckiest’ designer labels worn on the red carpet at awards ceremonies

Award season is in full swing, having commenced with the Golden Globes a few weekends ago, and the Emmys and Critics Choice Awards earlier this week.

A significant part of award season coverage follows who is wearing who. Whether it’s Taylor Swift in Gucci, Florence Pugh in Valentino, or Jennifer Lawrence in Dior, celebrity fashion will always dominate the headlines, often overshadowing who actually won the damn trophies!

Fashion label Jovani sought to uncover who the ‘luckiest’ designer might be to wear at an award ceremony. To do this, they examined a number of ‘best actress’ categories at three of the most esteemed award shows over the past decade (Golden Globes, Emmys and the Oscars) and noted who the winners were wearing…

In at number one is Armani. Over the last decade, Armani has been worn the most amongst winners, featuring on 10 winning ladies (13% of all actresses analysed). Armani has notably been worn by Jessica Chastain at the 2022 Oscars, Renée Zellweger in 2020 at the Golden Globes, and Zendaya (over webcam) at the 2020 Emmys.

Zendaya wore Christopher John Rogers & Armani Prive For The 2020 Emmy Awards.

The second luckiest designer to wear to an award show is Valentino, with 9 designs modelled by winning women. Valentino has been worn by winners Lily Gladstone most recently at the 2024 Golden Globes, Frances McDormand at the 2021 Oscars, and Zendaya (again) at the 2022 Emmys.

Oscar winners Yuh-Jung Youn, Daniel Kaluuya, and Frances McDormand (the latter in Valentino).

The joint third luckiest designers to wear to an award show is Prada and Dior, featuring on 5 winning ladies. Most recently seen in Prada was Ayo Edebiri at the 2024 Golden Globes while Olivia Colman wore the label in 2019 at the Oscars. For Dior there was Jennifer Lawrence at the 2016 Golden Globes and most recently Quinta Brunson at the Emmys this year.
