THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

A24 continue teasing Talking Heads fans, drip-feeding us tracks from a new covers LP

Talk about not making sense. It’s been months now since production company A24 began teasing of a compilation covers album in celebration of Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense but still we’ve not seen the full project materialise.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the pivotal live album, and while we know who all the artists are contributing to the covers LP, it appears producers are sticking to drip-feed tactic, only releasing track by track.

So far, we’ve heard Paramore’s on-point cover of Burning Down The House but not seen a full video for the track, only a snippet on YouTube and TikTok – but my, does lead singer Hayley Williams looks fab in her oversized suit.

Today, New Zealand artist Lorde has unveiled her cover of Take Me To The River for the new tribute LP, but again no official video; only a visualiser on YouTube. You can hear the full track at top of our Music Player from today.

I’m loving both Paramore and Lorde’s new renditions of classic Talking Heads songs but I do believe they each deserved vivid videos. Since AI generating software offers all manner of imagery these days, brilliant vids could have been whipped up in a minute.

The 16-song tribute LP – its full title Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense – will mirror the original tracklisting of Talking Heads legendary 1984 concert film (and the corresponding live album). It will also feature recordings by The National, Toro y Moi, Miley Cyrus, The Linda Lindas, Abstract, BadBadNotGood, Teezo Touchdown, Blondshell, and more.

A release date for the final project has not yet been revealed.

PS: While you’re waiting for the full album release, Mad Man Entertainment have released a 4K restored version of Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense live video, directed by Jonathan Demme, in digital format that you can buy here.
