THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

My favourite Yo-Chi yogurt toppings graded…

I love my frozen yogurt. I especially love the variety and toppings available at Yo-Chi frozen yogurt outlets, which now have stores right across the country.

When I heard of a new outlet opening up in Fremantle, I had to check it out to ensure it was as up to scratch as the venues already open in Karrinyup, Leederville and ye olde original store in Vic Park.

A new Yo-Chi outlet has opened up in Fremantle, WA. Yay!

I Googled ‘Freo’ and ‘frozen yogurt’ to find the address and – wouldn’t you know it – some joint in Sydney popped up, apparently called ‘Freo Australia’ and professing to selling premium frozen yogurts and express gelato. Not. My. Brand. A few lines down I found the address I was looking for, et voila, I was on my way to WA’s newest Yo-Chi store.

The new Fremantle outlet is minimalist in design just like the other stores, which means the true stars of the show – the various yogurt bases and endless array of toppings – really stand out.

On this visit, I thought I’d stick with the signature tart yogurt – keeping things neutral enough so as to differentiate between various toppings. I also thought I’d grade the toppings this time ’round, so here goes:

: Pistachio Papi

This is currently my favourite topping, a gooey green dollop-y cream of pistachio nut, courtesy of Italo-Aussie brand Pistachio Papi. The flavour is equal parts savoury and sweet and the topping is as delicious an experience as eating fresh pistachios from a pack. Also a perfect accompaniment with the signature tart yogurt base.

In celebration of the Yo-Chi x Pistachio Papi collab, all grandmothers or ‘Nonnas’ are invited to enjoy Yo-Chi for free this Sunday 21 April. Yep, you read right. If you feel like taking your grandma / nanna / nonna / yiayia out for a grand experience this Sunday, stop by your nearest Yo-Chi store for a free frozen yogurt up to the value of $12. Now it’s on with more suggested toppings…

: Fresh strawberries and fresh pineapple

Never forgetting that eating yogurt is meant to be a healthy affair, I like to include fresh fruit in the mix. The strawberries help promote healthier skin with its high levels of antioxidants, vitamin C and folate, while the pineapple is a great digestive packed with thiamine, manganese and bromelain (these three helping with healing body ailments).

: Chocolate Chunk Cookie Cake

I often ensure that a good chunk of this stuff is included in my Yo-Chi toppings mix. Not only is cookie dough one of my favourite flavours in the dessert stakes but it helps fill me up so I can miss out lunch and enjoy my Yo-Chi is a half-treat, half-meal, which brings me to my next favourite toppings…

: Mango Mochi

These are a sweet Japanese rice treat just bursting with mango flavour. They’re great to add to your Yo-Chi if you happen to be vegan but are wanting added texture to your frozen yogurt meal.

Remember, Yo-Chi regularly add to their broad array of yogurt bases and toppings, so check in regularly for updates. Visit yochi.com.au for the full menu rundown. And, if you happen to be in Sydney, be sure not to get this trusty brand of frozen yogurt confused with that other one.
