Zombie Kittens: keep fighting undead moggies to survive!

Kittens rise from the graveyard and it’s up to you to survive the invasion by avoiding death or end up becoming undead in the fun boardgame Zombie Kittens. A standalone party game from the people who brought you Exploding Kittens, this one’s also for fans of the cute-slash-gruesome – emphasis on the slash bit.
Exploding Kittens started life as a mere Kickstarter idea from the mind of game creator Matthew Inman: the ideas man also connected to comic series The Oatmeal. (The Oatmeal series – about cats and why Nikola Tesla was the greatest inventor is still one of my favourite things on the net).
With definite nods to classic zombie movies, in tune is the Exploding Kittens game with the zeitgeist, there’s even a Netflix series coming out next month.
Fast forward, in the meantime, to Zombie Kittens, which is really an expansion pack that can be played alone or mixed in with the original game. Indeed, it can even be incorporated with other expansion packs, such as Imploding Kittens, Good vs Evil, Streaking Kittens and Barking Kittens.
The game comes in a distinct black and green box with shiny glowing cat paws and a synopsis of the game at the base. The packaging feels slick and nice to touch, with elements of graveyards and cats watching you from the box. Inside are 61 cards, all with unique illustrations. Each time you take a card, an axe is revealed, which is cool horror touch.

The game is simple: players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an Exploding Kitten. When that happens, that person ‘explodes’ and they are out of the game (for now). All of the other cards will give you powerful tools to help you avoid exploding.
Basically, ‘exploding’ means you have a chance to rise from the grave and take your revenge but you may just end up facing a few enemies. In short, you get to bring back your friends – and enemies – in an undead spin on your favorite Russian Roulette style kitten card game.
It would be interesting to see how this game holds up with against the others, but I do think it will align well. The only think I find kind of clunky is the revival aspect. The revival aspect itself is not as well fleshed-out with the other packs in the series as it made our head scratch on occasion, nd it created a game that almost never ended (until I won, lol).
Overall, Zombie Kittens is a fun game but I would recommend trying out Exploding Kittens first.
Zombie Kittens is available to purchase online or through physical stores including Target, JB Hi-Fi, EB Games and game shops in your city. FYI, right now is the time to save on board games with JB HiFi, for example, having a 20% off EOFY sale until June 30.
