Hairspray – The Musical heading to Perth in September

I’ve appreciated the irony and humour of Hairspray ever since I saw the original John Waters film eons ago. The first time I saw a stage adaptation of Hairspray was in Las Vegas mid-noughties – what better place to catch the camp antics on stage!

Now, I’m excited to learn that Hairspray The Musical is heading to Perth, playing at Crown Theatre from September 7, 2024.

If you’ve had your head in the sand over the past couple of decades, here’s the show’s synopsis: A dance-loving teenager, Tracy Turnblad, has one dream –  to dance on TV’s The Corny Collins Show. When her dream becomes reality, big-haired Tracy falls in love and finds friends in unexpected ways.

With eight Tony Awards to its name, including Best Musical, Hairspray is a hugely acclaimed and much loved show with the latest production featuring a cast of 32 performers from across the country. 

The cast includes Rob Palmer – former presenter of Better Homes & Gardens, Chelsea Plumley – whose TV credits include Neighbours and Offspring, Brendan Hansen (Chicago, The Addams Family Musical), and Paige Fallu (what a voice!).
