Get set for a strange, tainted and twisted film, darling

Luna Palace Cinemas are certainly stepping up their game with their film selections being far more exciting and enticing than those offered by the bigger chain cinemas.
One such film that’ll have horror and thriller fans running for the box office is the breathtaking new thriller Strange Darling, from the producers of Barbarian and Late Night with the Devil.
Having just seen this film, I can tell you it has cult classic stamped all over it. The film features an injured woman being stalked through the wilderness by a dude with a rifle who looks like the ultimate, mad stalker. But since the film is presented out of chronological time, with its ‘chapters’ purposely mixed up, it makes for some marvelous twists and turns.

As the young woman does her best to outsmart her attacker, we see her growing weaker – even with those chapters being mixed up. But you’ll see what I mean when you see the full film…
Captured entirely on 35mm film and utilising sound in a most innovative manner, director JT Mollner’s (Outlaws and Angels) has done a wonderful job at presenting a twisted game of cat and mouse, helped out by the impressive performances from actors Willa Fitzgerald (MTV’s Scream) and Kyle Gallner (A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), Scream and Smile).
On an aesthetic note, what Mollner does with the blood-red hues in this film could have made Akira Kurosawa blush.

Currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics are raving about this taut, nerve-snapping thriller.
If you’re up for some real thrills, make the most of a special event being held by Luna Palace Cinemas on Friday 23 August. The screening of Strange Darling includes killer pre-film tunes spun by DJ Bexx, a slice of Siena’s pizza on entry, $10 Jack Daniels and Colas, and special wall projections before the film starts at 7pm.
