Holy Anniversary, Batman, it’s been 85 years!

It’s WHAM!/BAM!/AMAZING! to think that Batman is now 85 years old, the superhero first having appeared in the comic book Detective Comics #27 as ‘The Bat-Man’ in May, 1939.
Since then, Batman has gone on to star in graphic novels, feature films, TV series and of course video games to become one of the most well-known icons in pop culture history.
In fact, Batman is the single most successful superhero film franchise in movie history, and there have been more theatrical films based on him than on any other comic book character.
You’ll be seeing Batman cropping up all over the shop lately (quite literally, when it comes to toy merchandising). There’s the animated TV series Batman, Caped Crusader currently available to view, and the forthcoming The Batman II, which will star Keanu Reeves as the titular dude.

Chances are, too, that Batman will be referenced in The Penguin TV series, which will be available to watch on Binge and Foxtel come September 20.
Ardent fans of the Caped Crusader would also be keen to know that released this year is the comic book Batman: Dark Age with more sure to come.

I’m pretty sure they’ll also be preparing for the next ‘Batman Day’ which this year has been shifted to September 21. You can expect comic retailers, book stores and even libraries to be putting on all sorts of extravagant events in celebration of one of the world’s most famous superheroes.
Really, though, I’m just waiting for the cinematic release of Joker 2, out October 3.
