Actor Val Kilmer has died at age 65

Actor Val Kilmer, known for his roles in The Doors and  Batman Forever, has died in Los Angeles on April 1, aged 65.

Kilmer’s daughter, Mercedes, revealed that the cause of death was pneumonia, after Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and later recovered.

Val Kilmer was born and raised in California, attending the Juilliard acting academy before landing his first role in a small film called Top Secret.

He went on to play the leads in The Doors and  Batman Forever, and featured in other popular films including Top Gun,  Heat, True Romance and Alexander.

He became one of Hollywood’s most prominent leading men in the 1990s before difficult relationships with various directors saw his role wins lessen. Indeed, Kilmer’s reputation was one of a man whose temperament, intensity and controlling nature often made him difficult to work with.

The final film Kilmer appeared in was Top Gun: Maverick, alongside Tom Cruise.
