Vinyl record sales set to surge again over Record Store Day 2025

Saturday 12th April is Record Store Day, and since winter is coming, what better way to pass the time than popping on a vinyl album and cosying up to some quality music?
There’s a warmth to vinyl that you just don’t get with an MP3 download or streaming service. Listening to your favourite artist on a 33rpm LP can feel like they’re rocking or crooning in the loungeroom just for you. Even old records with their crackling sounds deliver a certain warmth that you can’t get from YouTube Music or a Spotify playlist – not even through the highest quality earbuds.
In 2025, the global vinyl record market is projected to reach USD 3.5 billion, with a CAGR of 6.8% between 2025 and 2033.
Yet, while vinyl record sales have experienced a notable increase in recent years, including surpassing CD sales in 2022, some reports indicate a potential decline in sales in 2025 due to rising costs.
The surge in vinyl popularity is due to a few factors, including a growing appreciation for the sound quality of vinyl and – keeping things nice and down-home – a desire to support artists directly. While streaming services have made music more accessible – getting artists’ new music to listeners quicker than ever – they pay artists very little money. In fact, musicians and singers make such little income from having their music streamed, they’ve had to find other sources of income such as selling merchandise and touring – literally having to sing for their supper.
Vinyl records also lend a certain credibility to a band or singer’s reputation. Imagine growing up listening to The Beatles or Led Zeppelin on vinyl, then joining a band years later, and actually making your own records complete with sleeve art, lyrics and even thank-you notes.
There’s a stack of fresh vinyl pressings from local and international acts, all out for today and beyond. So many, in fact, I couldn’t begin to list them here. So go to the Record Store Day website for the full, extensive list.
Then pop on a vinyl album and enjoy a cosy weekend.
