Virginia Giuffre, the woman reportedly trafficked for sex with Prince Andrew by Jeffrey Epstein, has died by suicide family say

Virginia Giuffre, the woman who alleged she was trafficked for sex by Jeffrey Epstein and  to Prince Andrew, has died by suicide, according to a family statement. Giuffre was 41.

In the statement, Giuffre’s family confirmed she died by suicide at her property in Neergabby in the shire of Gingin, 78 kilometres north of Perth. 

The statement reads: “It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away [on Friday night] at her farm in Western Australia. She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.”

The statement continues: “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors. Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure.”

WA Police say that emergency services received a report that a woman had been located unresponsive at a residence in Neergabby at around 10pm last night (Friday 25 April) and that the police and St. John ambulance responders tried to provide first aid but it was too late. Virginia was declared deceased at the scene.

Only three weeks ago, Giuffre had been driving on a country road and was hit by a bus, claiming that she only had days to live, in social posts. Neither police nor the public took her comments seriously.

Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Prince Andrew on August 9, 2021. The lawsuit, which accused Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, was settled out of court on February 15, 2022. 

On March 8, 2022, the BBC reported that the settlement had been paid but the amount remained undisclosed and it was still not clear how Andrew paid it.

WA police say they will continue to investigate Giuffre’s death.
