Give your skin a youthful boost with new non-invasive treatment, Rejuran

It takes a bit of contemplation—and a lot of research—before I say yes to a skin rejuvenation treatment. My only previous experience, more than 15 years ago and involving a different type of cosmetic procedure, had left me wary. So, yes, I felt some trepidation when offered the opportunity to try Rejuran, a treatment that has been gaining attention in aesthetic medicine. Still, curiosity (and careful reading) eventually won out.

I needn’t have worried in the least for Rejuran procedures are fairly simple and certainly positive in their results. I first came across the product upon reading about it in this very magazine. When offered the opportunity to actually try it, like I said, I went and read a whole lot more about it, and then booked in three consecutive sessions, each about five weeks apart.
Rejuran is a skin treatment that originated in South Korea and that has gained popularity in aesthetic medicine over the past two or three years. The product itself, in liquid form, is primarily made from polynucleotide (PN) – or, to be more explicit, fragments extracted from salmon DNA. Yes, you read right. I figured that since I’ve enjoyed my share of salmon roe eggs on canapes at cocktails parties, a little salmon DNA is not going to hurt me.
These substances are purified and processed to create injectable solutions that, upon several treatments are intended to promote tissue restoration and reconstruction, and contribute to improved physical appearance.
With so many boxes set to be ticked, I was keener than ever to give the procedure a go.
The good DNA is commonly administered through microinjections into the dermis layer of the skin. Up to sixty tiny pricks per session, which have a little sting to start with but it’s something you easily get used to.
My appointments were made at trusted cosmetic clinic, Youth Lab in Perth (they actually have five clinics broadly spaced across Perth, including in Claremont, West Perth and Joondalup). Upon meeting the clinic’s main physician (and Youth Lab’s Medical Director), Dr Kate Jameson, I was given the full explanation of Rejuran in laymen’s terms, and had all questions of concern answered honestly and succinctly.

“The thought of any treatment can be a bit nerve-racking,” Kate. “While Rejuran may involve slightly more swelling and bruising than other treatments you may be familiar with (some people experience temporary swelling or bruising), these effects typically resolve within a few days and can be managed with guidance from a healthcare provider.”
Rejuran is formulated with highly purified polynucleotides derived from salmon DNA, aiming to support tissue restoration and improve physical appearance.
The treatment I opted for was Rejuran I: a specialised variant of the Rejuran line specifically formulated for the delicate under-eye area. The formulation here has a lower molecular weight compared to standard Rejuran as it is being used to treat the thinner, more sensitive skin around the eyes. My main issues were a subtle darkness beneath the eyes, and the puffiness that often follows late nights at the computer.

After my first treatment, I noticed a certain lightness in the under-eye area and for such quick results, I was content. Upon returning to the clinic, I asked to see if Rejuran would also work on lightening a bit of redness I had at the top of my cheeks. So this area also received several microinjections. I found that after my second treatment, the under-eye area went even lighter as did the redness I wanted to get rid of. Surprisingly, I also found fine lines around the eyes appeared to soften.
Dr Jameson notes, “With repeated treatments, some individuals report that their skin appears progressively more refined over time.”
From my perspective, these changes appeared gradually over time, which aligns with what’s expected from a cumulative treatment approach.
Within a couple of weeks of completing my third session, I began to notice subtle improvements in how my skin looked and felt—especially in tone and texture. While outcomes vary from person to person, I’d have to say my results were most positive. Some of that under-eye darkness I was concerned about appeared softer, and the overall appearance of my skin felt more refreshed.
While some people might squirm at the idea of 60 tiny needles being administered at a time, like I said earlier, the pin-pricking is a short, sharp shock at first but you really do get used to it. It almost starts to feel like a delicate kind of acupuncture for the face, really. Numbing cream that has been applied to the face prior to each treatment also helps to minimise discomfort.
I’ll also add here that I enjoyed some immediate downtime treatment courtesy of LED lights over the face. Just ten minutes under soothing LED lights helps minimise discomfort, redness and any possible bruising later. In fact, you can continue using LED at-home treatment in between Rejuran sessions and this will only help better the results.

Some individuals may begin to notice changes within a few weeks following treatment, although individual outcomes can vary. I wanted to know if Rejuran was “addictive”, per se.
Dr Jameson explains, “As with many skin treatments, Rejuran outcomes tend to build with time and consistency. If you decide to stop, the skin generally returns to its natural baseline gradually.”
She adds, “Ongoing treatment is entirely optional. People often continue based on how their skin responds, but there’s no requirement to maintain results unless you choose to.”
With all my concerns answered, and now having had the treatment in its full recommended length (ie: three sessions for best effect), I was very pleased with the results personally experienced.
For those seeking non-invasive options in sensitive areas like the eyes, Rejuran may be considered as part of a personalised treatment plan. I personally felt more confident in my appearance following treatment, but individual results vary.
The polynucleotides of the salmon DNA are quite simply biological molecules that play a role in skin tissue repair and regeneration. And what better than a little microscopic nature to improve your own natural wellbeing?
