The world’s first runway sauna has opened at Helsinki Airport… a first world problem solved!

Just in case you still think you don’t have it better than the poor sods in Gaza or the Ukraine, or some innocent protester being dragged of by an army of police in LA, you can demand that you stay heated and invigorated courtesy of a sauna at the airport.
In Finland, Helsinki Airport heated up a runway sauna in ambition to create a transition not just across borders, but straight into Finnish happiness. In a land with over three million saunas, the runway sauna is first of its kind.
Pickish travellers can relax in a truly Finnish way which, while situated near the runway, is still easily accessible.
“Most airports have transit zones – some even have saunas. But only Helsinki Airport can offer a transit to Finnish happiness,” says Anna Tuomi, Finavia’s Head of Marketing.

Finavia manages and develops 20 airports around Finland. “It is the touchpoint to tune into the rhythm, values and mindset of [the country]. Your story can go anywhere from here.”
I’m suddenly hearing strains of Groove Armada’s At The River…
Apparently, a sauna is a perfect way to start a holiday in Helsinki, obviously known for soothing and relaxing tired muscles, relieving mental fatigue and stress – all good to cope with the cold over there.
Helsinki Airport has been selected as the best airport in Europe seven times within the past eight years.
