THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

New Tiny Vinyl records are now available to play on your standard turntable… they literally fit in your pocket!

We’ve had traditional 12″ vinyl LPs and 7″ singles, convenient compact discs, large laser discs, and MP3s and streaming channels, but are we ready to listen to music on tiny, tiny vinyl?

Just this week, a mini but mighty new physical music format has arrived, aptly called Tiny Vinyl. Measuring at just four inches in size, Tiny Vinyl is a playable vinyl record that can hold four minutes of audio per side.

According to a press release, the vinyl disc aims to bridge the gap between modern and traditional… to offer a new collectible for artists to share with fans that easily fits in your pocket.

While it might be a gimmick that’ll only last a year or two, tons of contemporary artists have hopped onto the Tiny Vinyl bandwagon – with releases coming from Chappell Roan (Pink Pony Club / Naked In Manhattan), Gracie Abrams (That’s So True / I Love You, I’m Sorry), Doechii (Denials is a River / Anxiety), and Lainey Wilson (Somewhere Over Laredo / 4x4xU).

Record companies are also testing the format with tried and true artists such as Frank Sinatra (Jingle Bells / Silent Night), Rolling Stones (Satisfaction / The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man – that last one, lol), and even Britney Spears is being given a spin on the format (Baby One More Time, Oops!…I Did It Again).

The great news is, if you already have a turntable, you don’t have to invest in any further equipment as Tiny Vinyl plays on an ordinary record player.

It was always important to us to make Tiny Vinyl play at 33rpm on a standard turntable,” say the product’s creators co-founders Neil Kohler and Jesse Mann. “That’s the most common format, so we made that our standard.”

The guys added that “to engage fans at this scale, we knew the jacket and art had to feel authentic, just like 12” vinyl — only at the 4” diameter [size].”

Tiny Vinyl records are made from 100% bio-attributed vinyl, and apparently use about one tenth of the materials required to make a standard 12” record.

Tiny Vinyl is currently being made available exclusively through Target in the US but there is no confirmation if or when the product will land in Australia. You can, however, order internationally through various artists’ own websites and online sales channels.

You could say music has just gotten bigger. Well, smaller, really.
