Throwing Shade: Louis Vuitton releases its first line of lipsticks in 55 shades of red… We say Vive la révolution

On the hit comedy series Absolutely Fabulous, fashionista Patsy Stone says, “You can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes.” She did indeed forget “bags”, and of course lipsticks. Lots and lots of lipsticks.
Louis Vuitton – famed makers of all of the former products – is now venturing into the latter world – creating its first line in makeup and beauty.
Dubbed ‘La Beauté’, the new makeup collection marks Louis Vuitton’s debut in colour cosmetics — a milestone in the brand’s evolution beyond fashion-accessory fame.

The line has been crafted under the creative direction of Pat McGrath, the legendary makeup artist who has worked with the maison for over two decades.
In the lipstick collection, titled LV Rouge, there are 55 shades in total, that number paying homage to the intitials LV (in Roman numberals, LV equals 55).
The lipsticks come in to luxurious finishes – 27 satin options, and 28 matte. Formulated for both performance and skincare benefits, the lippies are infused with natural waxes from upcycled rose, jasmine, and mimosa flowers, along with shea butter and hyaluronic acid, delivering long wear and hydration.
By upcycled, I’m presuming they mean roses that have been cut, used once for decoration in vases, and then crushed and filtered down as an ingredient for each lipstick. Now that’s a smackingly smart idea…
