THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

The Laifen Mini: our new favourite hair dryer to take on holidays

You check into a hotel room and the first thing you do is check out what accessories and amenities are in the bathroom. Quality soap, body wash and dental kit, check, check, check. Shampoo and conditioner – it doesn't matter because you brought your own tailored-specific high quality brand. Hairdryer? Uh-oh...

Hotel hairdryers are usually low-wattage and underpowered which means they take forever to dry hair. This can be frustrating if you’re in a rush to want to get out and venture through the city you're visiting. They also have limited heat and speed settings, which doesn’t give you much control over how you want to style your hair.

The reason most of us don't bring our own hairdryers abroad is because they can be cumbersome and take up a lot of weight in our luggage. Alas, say hello to the Laifen High-Speed Hair Dryer Mini – a compact, travel-friendly hair dryer that delivers fast drying with a high-speed brushless motor and even heat distribution.

Despite its small size, the Laifen Mini does everything from smoothing frizz to boosting shine, while locking in moisture with it clever negative ion technology.

With multiple heat and speed settings, it’s perfect for all hair types, and the ultimate accessory to take with you on holiday. Lightweight and ergonomic, the Laifen Mini is ideal for on-the-go, salon-quality styling.

I recently brought one with me to Bali and shared the good hardware with my big sister – who is always wanting that salon look when on holiday. I found it a cinch to use. The high-speed airflow meant my locks were nice and dry within minutes, thanks to its ionic drying feature and high-speed motor. I don't usually mess with heat and speed settings as my hair is fairly short and easy to manage.

My sister, however, has long hair that is straightened and coloured, and she found this nifty device just as pleasant to use. The multiple heat and speed settings means she could customise the Laifen to her own hair type and drying preferences. A smart temperature control monitors the temperature 100 times over to protect hair from heat damage, while Laifen's brushless motor produces a 19 m/s wind speed to dry hair faster but carefully and delicately.

With all that changing motor stuff going on, you'd think there'd be a bit of a racket in the bathroom. Instead, the Laifen mini hair dryer is quieter than traditional dryers, which is a huge advantage if you don’t want to wake up your somewhat hungover travel mate.

Back to the tech stuff for a moment, Laifen hair dryers use ionic technology, that helps reduce frizz and static, leaving hair smoother and shinier. And it heats up oh-so quickly. This is a major plus for the user who is wanting a polished look without having to spend much time or effort.

I'd certainly recommend this dryer to anyone wanting salon-grade looks without the drama or excess electricity usage, and with definite positive results.
