Smart new sun protection ‘WhipScreen’ comes in three delish fragrances and an anti-scent

Growing up in the 1980s, whenever we’d frequent the swimming pool or the beach, we’d sometimes – sometimes – lather on sunscreen. Sun protection wasn’t high on our agenda and even if you did wear sunscreen, it would usually be stamped with a protection factor of 8 or 4, even something as low as 2. Even when the telly would run ‘Slip Slop Slap’ commercials, we considered it more of a suggestion, not a precaution. And if you take a look at the ad we were subjected to (below), you’d understand why didn’t take heed.
Fortunately for me, being of Italian decent, I never sunburnt easily and I’ve been very lucky not to have been harmed by strong sun rays. And they get pretty strong over the course of a hot West Australian summer.
By the time the ’90s rolled around, global warming had truly made its presence felt and with the ozone layer above us beginning to deplete, we learnt just how harmful UV rays could be on our skin.
This was not about protecting your skin from just sunburn – this was about true broad-spectrum protection against harmful ultraviolet ‘A’ rays, which were not well-regulated until the new decade arrived.
Today, skin protection has become a priority for everyone, no matter where you are posited on the globe and regardless of what season it is. Subsequently, hundreds of skin protection products now pack supermarket and chemist, and often it can all too overwhelming, with brands blending into one another.
One brand that jumps off the shelf that looks most suitable for the kids is Barefoot Labs’ WhipScreen sun protection range. Packed in bold-hued cans, the WhipScreen collection of mousse sunscreens is fully TGA- approved with each product boasting an SPF of 50+.

Where traditional sunscreens are often thick and greasy, leaving behind heavy residue, WhipScreen is non-sticky, leaves no white cast, and pleasantly moisturises with one of its key ingredients being vitamin E. Another great point of difference is the range’s offering of four delicious scents. There’s Watermelon (pictured top of story), Bubblegum, and my favourite, Glazed Donut. Despite its super-sweet inspiration, the Glazed Donut scented mousse is not in the least sticky; it goes on light and feels as though I have no sunscreen on. And if I love it, the kids will for sure.

For folks who prefer a no-fuss, fragrance-free sunscreen there’s also the boldly named Anti-Scent option, with this and the other options all created from vegan ingredients, and all providing fast-absorbing protection from the sun’s rays. WhipScreen is also suitable for peeps who are sensitive to texture as well as those with acne-prone skin seeking a non-comedogenic alternative.
Brighten up your skincare regime this summer with something from this truly unique and standout sunscreen range.

WhipScreen SPF 50 sunscreen mousses are available from Chemist Warehouse, RRP $29 per 160g can. Or you can order through barefootlabs.com.au.
