Kate Bush releases a bunch of brilliant rare songs on new album ‘Best of the Other Sides’

Once upon a time, out on the wiley windy moors there was a pop phenomenon named Kate Bush who released an army of brilliant singles and albums, mostly throughout the 1970s, ’80s and a brilliant LP titled Aerial in the mid-2000s.

Right when stars were forced to align, the cosmos saw to it that Kate would get another timely comeback in 2022, thanks to the inclusion of her song ‘Running Up That Hill’ in stream-TV’s ‘Stranger Things’.

The artist’s artist has also had many B-sides and rarities that weren’t perhaps so exposed but do warrant repeat listening. Hence comes the release Best of The Other Sides, a carefully curated set of 11 songs from Kate’s rarities vault.

As I said, these are namely B‑sides, but there are also some dandy good remixes and non‑album tracks — drawn from her 2018 box‑set The Other Sides, which has been out of print and hard to access.

Highlights for me include Kate’s cover of Elton John’s Rocket Man, the elongated Meteorological 12″ mix of The Big Sky, and a sweeping, beautifully meditative song called Mna na heireann.
Now, if my eyes haven’t mistaken me, or at least if AI isn’t mocking a fan, I swear I saw a social media post recently about Aerial get a reboot of sorts this year, too. Keep your ears pricked if you hear anything and please let me know if that’s true.
