THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

The Prop Store LA is hosting two beaut online auctions of brilliant collectibles through March

There’s a phrase in French that is mise-en-scène, that refers to everything that appears in a film frame — sets, props, lighting, costumes, and of course the actor/s’ positioning. Each of these are arranged to create a specific aesthetic or to add to the narrative / meaning of a scene and film as a whole. For the most part of a movie, audiences are watching the actors, but as a graduate of film studies I often find myself ogling at interesting props in the background that help tell the story – knick knacks on shelves, furnishing that set the period, streets signs that relate to where the characters are.

I’m still hearing the dialogue so it isn’t as though I’m missing out on the storyline, yet I’m also soaking in more of what the director wanted to show and tell viewers.

So when I came across a website called The Prop Store a few years ago, I was in seventh heaven – able to track down so many iconic props, costumes and accessories from sets of films I have admired for years. A cool mask worn by some superhero in a DC Comics adaptation, a snazzy gizmo from the set of a sci-fi film, a great gadget from a gangster or spy movie. All once in the hands or whereabouts of well-known characters in memorable movies.

If it’s an iconic prop, chances are it’ll end up for sale in The Prop Store.

An LA-based online auction site, but with bids and purchases able to be made online from any corner of the globe, The Prop Store is hosting yet another of its magnificent live auctions, set to sell hundreds of original props, costumes, comic art, and entertainment memorabilia from the sets of some of the world’s most beloved and renowned movies.

The next big props auction is on between March 25-27, 2026. Featured are fab finds from screen gems like Jaws, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Princess Bride, The Big Lebowski, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, Iron Man, Jumanji and more. Punters can visit the Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction to register to bid.

Also coming up between March 6 – 8, 2026 is the Collectible Posters Auction. Here you’ll find original poster art for classic films such as The Birds, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Apocalypse Now, Batman, and even B-grade films such as 1957’s Attack Of The Crab Monsters (lol), and Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

The beauty of scoring a prop, costume or accessory from The Prop Store is that all are verified as genuine: the real thing that was actually used or worn by a well-known beloved (or loathed) character once witnessed on the big screen. Now these can be yours forever… heck, you could start your very own movie museum if you’ve got the dosh! Even owning just one special prop from one favourite movie makes for great dinner party conversation.

If you manage to score something beaut, be sure to drop Cream a line to show it off. And hands off the screen-matched puppet of Shorty from Killer Klowns (right)that one’s mine!
