THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

Australian Museum set to turn time waaaay back with mammoth dinosaur exhibition opening in November

Sydney is about to get seriously prehistoric. Opening 28th November at the Australian Museum, Dinosaurs of Patagonia will see one of the most extraordinary chapters in Earth’s history roaring back to life – and it’s arriving just in time to launch a huge year of celebrations for the Museum’s 200th anniversary in 2027.

At the centre of the blockbuster exhibition is Patagotitan mayorum, the largest animal ever known to have walked the Earth. Stretching an almost absurd 38 metres from nose to tail and weighing an estimated 70 tonnes, this colossal herbivore makes a human look less like a visitor and more like an appetiser.

The exhibition travels more than 100 million years into Patagonia’s prehistoric past, bringing together 16 full-scale dinosaur skeleton casts, 13 species, real fossils and interactive displays. There’s even a 2.4-metre-long Patagotitan femur – because apparently one enormous dinosaur bone wasn’t enough.

Developed by Argentina’s Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio (try saying that quickly), the exhibition explores the dinosaurs, predators, landscapes and palaeontologists behind some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most remarkable fossil discoveries.

If you’re in Sydney be sure to check out this big one. Because nothing quite puts modern life into perspective like standing beneath something that could have eaten your house.
