New ‘Mission Impossible’ movie launches with a bang: photo gallery from Perth preview night

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch 170 minutes of Tom Cruise airbrushed to oblivion and looking fab as a result, performing tens of genuine stunts with plenty of FX thrown in for good measure, in a sequel in a franchise that’s possibly the most successful in cinematic history, starring a cast of proverbial thousands, with a plot that’s pretty obvious, and an ending that… well, I won’t spoil it for you.

The newest and possibly final instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise, subtitled The Final Reckoning, kicked off with a bang last night at VMAX cinemas in Whitfords, Perth, to an audience that included footy stars, media darlings, and all-round action film aficionados.

The film itself is jam-packed with more martial arts than a UFC marathon weekend and it cost a pretty penny to make – a whopping 400 million dollars, in fact, which makes it one of the most expensive movies ever made (and could well have saved one developing country from poverty).

The dialogue is a little all over the place, with too many characters throwing in their ten-cents worth when just one would have summed any given scenario up nicely. But still, it’s not War & Peace we’re watching here, is it? Or is it?

‘Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning’ is in cinemas from May 17, 2025.
