Today is Pop Art Day… Yep, Warhol would be proud

It’s perhaps not so strange that something as brilliantly insidious as pop art should have its own day of recognition on the calendar. Today is, you see, International Pop Art Day which serves to to celebrate the Pop Art movement, which began in the 1950s and gained prominence in the 1960s, and is enjoying a resurgence today thanks to the many apps and filter options we have on our phones.

The Pop Art movement challenged traditional notions of fine art by incorporating imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertisements, comic books, and mundane objects.
The day of commemoration encourages people to appreciate the artistic potential in everyday life and to engage in creative expression without the intimidation often associated with classical art forms.

Celebrated annually on January 28, Pop Art Day honours a vibrant art movement that can only get more vibrant as the digital era takes hold of many facets of our lives.
