THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

It’s International Burger Day… Take the night off cooking and order in!

As if we didn’t have enough occasions to key into our calendars, now there’s a host of commemorative food-related days to contend with. But we’re not complaining, really.

Today, for example, is International Burger Day – in celebration of the humble hamburger. At least they used to be humble. Today’s burgers are bigger, bolder and packed with more ingredients than you could fit into any ordinary sandwich. And, heck, who are we to pretend we don’t enjoy scoffing the occasional triple quarter pounder or double chicken deluxe now and then?

It’s not clear why May 28 is the date we celebrate International Hamburger Day but since we don’t mind indulging in a Grill’d, Big Mac or Jack’s Chicken burger on occasion, we’re just going to go with it.

Keep in mind, of course, that burgers are not all fast fast food. Some burger favourites are taking their healthy cues so seriously, they’re appointing reputable chefs to overlook menus, like Grill’d recently reappointing culinary maestro Matt Wilkinson as a key consultant.

Other burger businesses are celebrating today by offering customers bumper value deals, so check out what’s on offer at Hungry Jack’s, McDonald’s, even Red Rooster, KFC, Oporto and the like.

Now, what better excuse is there to avoid cooking tonight?
