Hands in the air for a ‘Romy and Michelle’ movie sequel is finally in production
By creammagazine,

Fans of the 1997 cult comedy film Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion will be happy to know that the long-rumoured sequel to the film is officially in production, with original stars Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow returning as beloved best friends Romy White and Michele Weinberger, who are always keen to impress ex-high school friends.
The sequel reunites much of the original creative team. Original screenwriter Robin Schiff has written the script, while Tim Federle is directing.
Several fan-favourite cast members are also returning, including Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Janeane Garofalo as Heather Mooney, Camryn Manheim and Julia Campbell. New additions to the cast include Keegan-Michael Key, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, Rob Huebel and Nathan Lee Graham.
Plot details are still being kept secret, although reports suggest the story may revolve around Romy and Michele attending yet another class reunion — possibly their 40th. What is clear is that the filmmakers are aiming to preserve the quirky humour, friendship and colourful style that turned the original film into a cult favourite despite its modest box-office performance upon initial release.
The new film is being produced as a streaming release and is expected to premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally. No release date has been announced yet, but with filming now underway, a 2027 debut appears likely.
For longtime fans, the biggest attraction is simple: after years of false starts and rumours, Romy and Michele are finally back together, and the reunion that audiences have been waiting for is genuinely happening. That’s one high school reunion I’d be very keen to attend.
