With design competitions a dime a dozen nowadays it’s difficult for creative types to weed out the career launching from the less influential. That’s where the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award comes in. Gliding into its eighth year, the prestigious award celebrates and nurtures emerging design talents across various disciplines, from furniture to lighting, objet to hardware.
Judged by a panel of industry experts, the competition culminates with a gala event where the winning designs in various categories are displayed, and which ultimately results in a $30,000 cash prize for the victor and a trip to Milan to attend the international design fair, the Salone del mobile in 2011.
This year’s top 10 finalists display an incredible diversity in design genres; from a wine decanter to a pot plant hanger, and paper plates to paper weights. With sustainability as high on the judges’ list of criteria as aesthetics, they’re going to have to be ruthless when it comes to the cuts. Stay posted for the December 15th winner announcements here.
