Cashless card to replace current dole payment system?
Social security recipients may soon have payments into their usual bank accounts ceased. Instead, they’ll be provided with a ‘cashless’ welfare card that will act like a debit card, allowing them to purchase necessities only, while not allowing them to spend on alcohol, drugs or gambling.
The card is the brainchild of WA mining magnate Andrew Forrest, who has been working with the Abbott Government and various banks to see how it could be introduced onto the market, alongside usual bank cards.
Because it would work in any store that accepts Visa, Mastercard and EFTPOS, there is a certain amount of fine-tuning required so as not to allow purchases in bottle shops, bars and clubs. After all, the biggest problem in low-income communities is alcohol abuse, with heavy drinking a factor in up to half of all child abuse cases and domestic violence.
The card will also have limits and not be accepted for use of gambling facilities, while obviously its cashless factor would mean less access to street drugs.
Trials for the first cashless card could take place before 2015 is out. Antonino Tati

What this is saying is those on welfare, eg. AusStudy can’t plan for yearly car insurance and other payments. You also unfairly discriminate against those that put money in points debit cards that care controlled by major retailers. This restricts the freedom of choice, and in the end will limit opportunities. Education, is the only way to go, and use services that apply the restrictions as a requirement. This is a social experiment that is communistic in nature.
