As the love for outdoor recreation has always been at a higher pitch, thanks to the people who even though are so busy with their jobs would give recreational activities priority no matter what, the demand of camping tent is more than what has been anticipated. This is what gives the industry dedicated to designing tents an impetus to grow and develop at much faster pace so as to fulfil the demand in a timely manner. However, it is the beauty of camping tent that lies in letting the individuals have the best outdoor experiences either in their backyard or in the backcountry which makes it the vital cornerstone of such recreational activities.

Below are given four of the best features of camping tents.

Tent’s fabric: Believe it or not, tents have been in the picture from over a century. The difference, however, lies in the way they were designed in those times and how they are designed nowadays. In earlier times, silk, canvas, linen, cotton duck and lawn were some of the common tent-making materials. But, today, tents are made of materials including ripstop nylon and polyester. And as far as their designing is concerned, five pieces – sides, floor, zippered doors, mesh, and fly or roof – are made. Cutting and sewing the fabric together do not conclude the job of designing the tent; a waterproof coating is given to the tents to make them ready for any weather condition. Besides, where robustness is the concern, there are various makes of tents of silnylon material that can address it at a good price. Inexpensive tents are made of polyethylene tarp material while average-priced tents use a better combination of nylon and polyester.

Tent’s poles: With the evolvment of tent’s fabric, tent poles have also seen evolvement. Whether it was wood, steel, thin fibreglass or aluminium, at any point of time, the material of the pole has been one thing, i.e., sturdy. However, what have been introduced now are better quality poles which last long. Apart from it, there are varying options of diameter of the poles that are available to the market. If you are looking for tents that could provide ultimate storm protection, choose the tents with larger-diameter poles; such tents are costlier and heavier as compared to other tents. For no demanding purpose such as for summers, tents as cost effective as the ones made of fibreglass poles are the best option. However, aluminium poles are the ones which are lighter and more robust.

Tent’s floor: When tents were introduced, there were no floors furnished with them. Modern tents have waterproof floors, which are made of durable fabric such as nylon, polyester, etc. The way the floor is stitched to the walls of the tent makes a difference. A good tent’s floor is always sewn onto the tent walls. But some low-priced tents have floor and walls sewn together at the ground, making it inefficient whenever it comes not to entertain seepage of moisture through the seams into the tent. As far as the better ones are concerned, they have bathtub floors sewn onto the tent’s lower walls and that too few inches above the ground.

Tent stakes: Talking about the beginning phase, pegs made of wood were used by the early campers. The role of the peg has been to secure the tent to the ground. Nowadays, most tents are furnished with tent thin stakes made of stainless steel material. Each stake comes with some limitations; it is advisable to assess the quality and nature of soil before using stakes.

Apart from these features, there are many other important characteristics of tents to know, such as rain hood/fly, vestibule, ventilation, heat retention, condensation, sleeves, clips, velcro strips, guy-out loops, doors, footprint (ground cloth), pockets and gear loft, doormat, type, etc. All these are important to consider before buying a tent for a certain purpose.
