Mount Hawthorn and Maylands up next on the festival calendar

If it appears as though every inner-city suburb is hosting its own festival these days, that’s probably because it’s true. Where a decade ago only Northbridge and Mt Lawley’s Beaufort Street strip were famous hubs of multicultural festival activity, now the likes of North Perth, Leederville, Maylands, Subiaco and Claremont are hosting their own street festivals. Next up: Mount Hawthorn. Indeed, sadly, the Beaufort Street Festival has now called it quits just as the others continue to grow.
This Sunday there’s not one, but two great festivals on in Perth, one in Mount Hawthorn, the other in Maylands.
Recently announced was the program for the Mount Hawthorn Streets and Laneways Festival and it looks set to be huge.
Last year, the festival attracted over 35,000 people, and this year’s event looks like being an even bigger attraction.
Mount Hawthorn is one of Perth’s fastest evolving urban villages and possesses a unique sense of community and diversity. The precinct is well known for its neighbourly atmosphere while also popular for its pubs, bars, cafés and boutiques.

Highlights of the Streets and Laneways Festival include market stalls including the Mt Hawthorn Providores Market, Thai food carts, a circus-themed street bar, dance tent, DJs including Timothy Nelson and RTRFM’s Peter Barr, live art, roving performers and loads of great live bands.
