Why the world needs an 'Absolutely Fabulous' movie right now…

It’s been a long time coming since plans were first hatched for the first full-length ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ film – and it couldn’t come at a better time, due for international release July 1.
The world could really do with an ‘Ab Fab’ movie right now, and for several reasons.
First of all, we’ve been so inundated with so-called ‘reality’ shows and documentaries that are so scripted and over-acted, they defeat the purpose of the genre they claim to be a part of. ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ – the TV series and forthcoming film – actually present a retrospective and contemporary reality – that is, what the public relations industry did look like and what it’s currently morphing into (ie: forever one big hyped-up mess).
Indeed, all of us could do with a great laugh right now, what with the insane political scenarios we’re being subjected to, from Washington to Canberra, Syria to Sydney.
Day after day we witness posts on Facebook on all manner of atrocities – be it fracking, wildlife poaching, red-neck rioting, asylum injustice, racist killings, drug overdosing, Kim Kardashian, or any chapter lifted from Justin Bieber’s sorry life – and our need for some good old-fashioned humour couldn’t be higher.
‘Absolutely Fabulous’ doesn’t care about politics or political correctness – it chucks both of these right out the proverbial window, watching them smash on the sidewalk, dumped alongside last year’s too-small 64-inch flatscreen and Donatella Versace’s previous season collection.
‘Absolutely Fabulous’ makes no false apologies like the ones our dirty politicans make. It cuts to the chase, and chases the good times.
And as over-the-top as the shenanigans might seem of Bolly-fuelled Eddy Monsoon and drug-addled Patsy Stone, the irresponsible behaviour of these fash-mag slags is something we all crave.
We might be picketing for equal marriage rights, barracking for fairer civil rights, wanting to make the world a welcoming place for all creeds, religions and gender, and aiming to increase the macro factor in our diets, but amongst all of this seriousness, really, sweetie darlings, admit it: we all ache for a little ab fab. ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ is scheduled for cinematic release July 1.

Let’s also not forget our boredom with all the recycled movies coming out of hollywood these days/years… A bit of comedic originality, yes please.
