How to transform your bedroom into a sleep-friendly heaven

The bedroom should be your happy place where you go to relax, recover and forget about the day’s worries or stresses. But if you have trouble sleeping, making mornings a struggle there a few simple changes which can be made to your personal haven which will greatly improve your chances of drifting off.
It’s all about the lighting
Lighting is key when it comes to making your bedroom a more relaxing, sleep-friendly area. It’s important to include soft lighting such as bedside lamps and candles that will really help to set the mood in the evenings. If your bedroom contains large windows you may want to consider using thick curtains or blinds which will block out unwanted natural light in the early evening or morning. Ambient lighting will help you to wind down and relax whilst also kick starting your body’s secretion of melatonin making you feel sleepy.
Make the room a device-free zone
Any electronic device or gadget can be a huge distraction and make falling to sleep more difficult. Even something as subtle as the glow of a digital alarm clock could make it harder to drift off so if possible make your bedroom a device free zone. Remember your bedroom should be used primarily for sleeping so only go to bed when you want to fall asleep and try to avoid watching TV or using your laptop in the room. If like many of us you use your smartphone as a bedside alarm try finding a more traditional alarm clock instead and charge your phone in a separate room so you don’t get tempted to check messages or emails before bed.
Set the correct temperature
You may think that a warm and cosy bedroom will do wonders when trying to drift off but cooler temperatures are actually more beneficial. This is because your body temperature drops slightly as you begin to fall to sleep so being in a cool room can speed up the whole process. If you find your bedroom is naturally quite warm try using an electric fan or opt for lighter, thinner bedding which will keep you cool throughout the night.
Keep noise to a minimum
If your room is in a high-traffic area of the house or victim to distracting outside noises which disturb your sleep then there are a few simple tricks that may solve this problem. One trick is to use thick curtains made from a heavy material and install carpet rather than other types of flooring. These thicker materials can help to stifle any noise which may be keeping you awake. Failing that it may be useful to invest in a pair of earplugs or if you prefer a small amount of background noise some relaxing music. The subtle sound of an electric fan or air conditioning unit can also be just enough to keep your mind off whatever is going on just outside your window.
Invest in a good quality mattress
One of the most important aspects of creating a comfortable bedroom is choosing a good quality mattress. If chosen correctly a mattress can not only help you drift off but it can also improve your quality of sleep, support your body correctly throughout sleep and make mornings a lot easier too! When choosing the perfect mattress for you understand that everyone is different so it’s a good idea to try a few different options and see what works best for you. Retailers such Koala Mattress offer a trial period which makes finding your dream mattress for you a whole lot easier.
Making these simple changes to your bedroom will make a huge difference to the quality of your sleep and hopefully make sleepless nights and unpleasant mornings a thing of the past.

All onebeds are packed in a box approximately 1m high by 50cm x 50cm at the base
Should I flip the bed?
Flipping the bed is not required, onebed’s top and second layers ensure the bed will provide consistent comfort and support for at least 10 years.
