When two become one: Foxtel launch new music and arts division

Never one to stand on tradition, Foxtel has decided that two heads are, indeed, not better than one. Instead, one head will be sufficient when it comes to managing its arts and music brands.
The restructure will involve Foxtel Arts, the dedicated HD arts channel, and its suite of music channels ([V] Hits, Max, Smooth and CMC) being run by the single operating division, Foxtel Arts & Music.
What this managerial reshuffle means in terms of onscreen content will be revealed on August 29, when the handover officially takes effect. But will it mean a more artistic approach to its music programming or a more musical approach to arts?
Bringing these natural bedfellows closer together is surely the right move, expecially in an cultural environment in which the prevailing spirit is one of inclusion, where everything is art. Let’s hope Foxtel can bring some of that expansive thinking to it’s programming. Chris Prindiville
