A cool blend of contemporary & retro culture

Beck’s new clip offers flashbacks of his kooky earlier self…

Beck, looking very Andy Warhol, above, has always had a passion for everything retro. Indeed, a lot of his early album art and video work looked like images fed through Instagram filters way before Instagram was even invented.

His current single and the clip for it, Wow, takes the retro thing even further, brimming with all manner of Americana, even giving a nod in the direction of his Odelay period.

Cowboys are juxtaposed with raving kids, daggy dudes pose in vintage clothing, and little ballerinas dance as though they’ve gotten tips from Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ video, in a clip that is eclectic as it is insane.

Plenty of psychedelic inspiration in the making of this record, for sure. And a li’l puff of the ol’ hooch mcgooch, too. We’re guessing…  Antonino Tati

The single is available now on iTunes through EMI.
