A cool blend of contemporary & retro culture

Fringe World Perth set to serve up laughs and entertainment aplenty

As all Perth locals know, summertime means getting outside and having fun with family and friends. With so many people looking to be entertained on a night-out, Fringe World has become the star attraction. Running since 2011, Fringe World has grown in size and popularity to become the premier cultural festival on Perth’s social calendar. With acts from all over Australia and the world taking part, you might just see the next big thing before they break-out.

What has made Fringe World so wildly popular with audiences is that it offers a range of events to suit all tastes, from highbrow to street-style (and, yes, occasionally lowbrow), comic to tragic, traditional to avant-garde.

Ace Cabaret’s series of shows hosted at His Majesty’s Theatre, conveniently-titled ‘Downstairs at the Maj’, caters to those in search of sophistication and a relaxed and comfortable environment. One of the highlights on the ‘Downstairs’ bill is sure to be Trevor Jones’ one-man cabaret show, Kollision, which will be getting its WA debut after wowing audiences around the country. His unique blend of humour, story-telling and song will pick you up and have you smiling from ear to ear.

Another must-see event on at is the riotously funny Nigella: Love Bites. Hot on the heels of the actual celebrity chef having visited these shores, Love Bites takes audiences through Nigella’s sugar highs and front-page lows, with performer Raelene Isbester (pictured top of story) assuming the role of everyone’s favourite domestic goddess as she explores what makes this woman so appealing, bringing plenty of laughs along the way.

These are just a couple of morsels of what’s on offer at Fringe World 2017. So no matter what your tastes, there will be something on the program to get excited about. With January just around the corner, make sure you book in as many events as you can and support those artists who make our summer that somewhat more special.  Chris Prindiville

Fringe World 2017 runs from January 20 to February 19.

The program guide launches on December 8, 2016 and will be available at www.fringeworld.com.au.
