RuPaul Charles, the world’s most famous drag artist, announced today that he is married to partner of 23 years, Georges LeBar, the pair having tied the knot in January this year.

LeBar, who hails from Western Australia, met RuPaul on the dancefloor of popular gay club Limelight in January 1994, which also happened to be the night of Georges’ birthday.

“I’ve never said this on television before,” revealed RuPaul to the hosts of Hollywood Today this morning. “We are married.”

While Ru loves the limelight, he said in interview that his partner “doesn’t care for show business in the slightest”.

But the limelight isn’t always a turn-on for Ru, who once told Cream, “The truth of the matter is I’m actually really heavy and serious. I think the way I balance it and keep it at a really nice level is, come lights on, I’m turned on, and I don’t take myself that seriously.”

Of course the couple have had their ups and downs over the course of two decades and then some. In fact, this writer’s big sister used to live with Georges in Miami several years ago when he was on break from his relationship with RuPaul. But them’s stories not for publishing (promise!).

Suffice to say, it’s astonishing the news of the couple’s marriage hadn’t leaked earlier since RuPaul has been in the headlines lately, having won an Emmy late last year for ‘Best Reality Show Host’ and promoting his show RuPaul’s Drag Race, now in its ninth successful season.

Cream wishes RuPaul and Georges every success and a long life of lurve, enlightenment and happiness together.  Antonino Tati
