The cartoon capers continue
Strange it should take a bunch of cartoon characters to show all those Idol and X Factor winners and losers how to deliver a really cool, really credible and really catchy tune, but that’s just what animated outfit Gorillaz do again and again.
The (literally) virtual act, fronted vocally by Blur-come-sometimes-solo singer Damon Albarn, have just released their new LP Humanz, and once again it’s packed with tongue-in-cheek lyrics, frolicsome beats and impressive guests.
Seven years on from the release of their last album, Humanz sees our favourite animated dudes Murdoc Niccals (bass), Noodle (guitar), Russel Hobbs (drums) and 2D (vocals) joined by a stellar lineup of artists including Jehnny Beth (Savages), De La Soul, D.R.A.M., Grace Jones, Mavis Staples, Carly Simon, Kelela, Pusha T and Jamie Principle. And that’s just the beginning of the roll-call.
Check out the new track Saturnz Barz (Spirit House) above and tell us you’re not happy the Gorillaz are back in fine (animated) form? Antonino Tati
Gorillaz’ ‘Humanz’ is out through Warner Music on April 28th.
