THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

Playing up

The Eisteddfod @2x

When did growing up start to become such hard work? Don’t we all wish sometimes to go back to the simpler times of childhood? In this world of adult responsibilites and anxieties, the theatre is where we can play. And with their upcoming production, The Eisteddfod, Perth’s renowned theatre company Black Swan is all about ‘play’ time.

The company’s production of Lally Katz’s award-winning script will take audiences on a comic and unsettling journey through the nostalgic childhood world of orphaned siblings Abalone and Gerture, where playing games is a way of life.

Sometimes all we need is a reminder that play is something we all need (and do on occasion), no matter our age. And in the case of the The Eisteddfod, the play is very much the thing.  Chris Prindiville

‘The Eisteddfod’ is on at Perth’s Studio Underground from 22 June-9 July
