Just what the Doctor ordered
The times they are a-changing, and with them so too is everybody’s favourite timelord, Dr Who.
Just last week, the BBC announced that the 13th incarnation of the Doctor will be played by a woman, a first in the show’s 54-year history.
Big deal? Well, maybe not for some (check out the Daily Review’s Helen Razer’s take), but for most fans of series, I think it’s fair to say, this is pretty big news.
While the Doctor might be a far cry from a traditional man’s man, he still is a he, and for so long female characters on the series have taken a backseat to all his heroic adventuring.
Well, no more. The next doctor, who will be played by Broadchurch’s Jodie Whittaker, will take to the small screen in 2018. So until then, fans will just have to speculate on what the writers will have in store for our hero(ine).
A female Doctor might not change the world, but she might just push it in the right direction. Chris Prindiville
