THE NEW RETRO-MODERN

Rocking the suburbs

Kylie Minogue - Swinging Safari @2x

She’s dominated the charts for close to three decades, but now Australia’s pop princess, Kylie Minogue, is making her presence felt on the silver screen… and who would’ve thought it would be in a comedy?

Kylie will be starring in the upcoming Aussie romp Swinging Safari, directed by none other than Stephan Elliott, the man behind The Adventures of Priscillia, Queen of the Desert.

The film will take audiences back to the 1970s, to a typical Australian beachside suburb, where careless parenting, constant sun-burn and suggestive adult behaviour are all par for the course.

Alongside Kylie, the film also stars Guy Pearce, Radha Mitchell, Julian McMahon, Asher Keddie, Jeremy Sims, Darcey Wilson and newcomer Atticus Robb. Legendary Australian actor Jack Thompson also makes an appearance.

It also marks Guy Pearce’s first time working with the director since they collaborated on Priscilla over twenty years ago. But for the true believers, Swinging Safari is all about seeing Pearce re-team with Kylie for the first since they starred together in Neighbours.

But unlike the neighbourhood niceties of Ramsay Street, Swinging Safari goes behind the closed doors, where mums and dads are letting down their hair and much else besides. It’s a time of boxed wine, bad hair, bad fashions, bad choices, but – apparently – good times. And it’s all about to go spectacularly wrong.

There goes the neighbourhood, indeed.  Chris Prindiville

‘Swinging Safari’ opens in cinemas across Australia on January 18, 2018.
