December 1st marks not only the start of the traditional advent calendar (and a good time to put up the Chrissy tree) but it’s also the date of World Aids Day, and the start of World Aids Week.
Helping raise awareness about HIV and AIDS across the globe, World Aids Day is a time for communities to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died of AIDS-related conditions or other conditions associated with HIV.
One way you can contribute is to buy a red ribbon or a whole bunch of them, with all proceeds of ribbon sales helping to fund community-based initiatives that aim to eliminate HIV transmissions by the year 2020.
Heck, on December 1st, why not put two and two together? Drop the tacky tinsel, and instead cover your tree from top to toe in red ribbons. The colour is perfect for the festive season, and you’ll be doing a dandy good deed, indeed. Antonino Tati
