Fair Day is always a standout event on the Mardi Gras calendar, where members from all walks of life in the LGBTI communities come out to enjoy an array of outdoor activities. And tomorrow’s Fair Day is looking like being one of the biggest, boldest and rainbow-brightest yet.
There’s a full-on day of entertainment including live music and comedy on the ANZ Main Stage from 10:30am, plus over 250 stalls for ardent shoppers and eaters, demonstrations at the Sports Village for the fitness-minded, and a new Tropicana Bar featuring DJs Beth Yen, GI Jode and a host of other mix-meisters on the decks.
Just some of the community stalls on display include the 78ers (who were around when it all began!), Queer Screen, Dykes on Bikes, Gender Centre, Rainbow Families, Harbour City Bears, and the Sydney Femme Guild and Australian Gay and Lesbian Archives. Plenty of history to learn from. And lots of new stuff, too.
And let’s not forget the ever-so popular dog parade ‘DOGGYWOOD’, where participants get to show off their pretty pooches with pride. Forget tantrums and tiaras – this show is all about pretty bows and cute panting that’ll demand your attention as it culminates in the cleverly dubbed dog pageant ‘Game of Bones’.
With over 70,000 attendees expected to gather together in the park to celebrate not only the beginning of Mardi Gras, but also the power and beauty of diversity, expect this to be one glorious, fab-filled day. Antonino Tati
