Dom Chambers, the Dom in RanDOM is a sweet and funny entertainer, unassuming and endearing in his understated jeans and denim jacket. In his contemporary magic show, he not only ditches the top hat and bunnies, but brings the props and tricks into the 21st century, with even Siri making a guest appearance and Tinder targeted for a few laughs.
His sleight-of- hand is adept and although you know logically there is an explanation for how things get from here to there, and while you’re sure the ‘M’ word is not real, no matter how hard you look, you cannot see that moment, that glitch, that mistake.
When I got home I had to Google more of his tricks and it’s no wonder he is a viral sensation, but in the flesh and in the intimate King’s Lair cabaret-style theatre at His Majesty’s, you feel that just a moment’s eye contact with Dom could mean you’ll be next up on stage.
It’s a fun way to spend an hour, and the majority of the audience leaves satisfied… and just a little perplexed. Karen Lamond
