Gold Coast singer/songwriter Amy Shark has taken out this year’s Vanda & Young Songwriting Prize for her single Adore.
Courtesy of APRA AMCOS, Alberts and BMG, Amy has received $50,000 – the largest first prize for any songwriting competition in the world.
Only this year Amy committed herself to making music fulltime, but the decision’s been a long time coming, since Adore soared to number two on Triple J’s Hottelst 100 back in 2016.
Amy has also won two ARIA awards (Best Pop Release and Breakthrough Artist) in 2017 and Pop Work of the Year at the 2018 APRA Music Awards.
Is the world ready for another all-round talent named Amy? Alas one that looks like being able to keep it far more together… Lisa Andrews
Amy Shark’s debut album ‘Love Monster’ is set to be released on July 13 with a national tour commencing in Adelaide on August 24.
