Warm up with Beerland Chilli events this weekend
Being of Sicilian, Italian heritage, let me tell you I’ve tried lots of chillis. From mild to hot, the ability to cope with the good fiery stuff has been instilled from generation to generation. There’s hardly an Italian dish I cook these days that doesn’t have a dash of chilli in it.
So, it was a surprise to be challenged at the launch of Beerland Chilli Week in Perth, where everything contained chilli. Within a minute of arrival we were greeted with pints of Beerland Brewing Habanero – a beer with such ‘bite’, you might need a water to cool down between sips. Known for its citrusy flavour, the addition of habanero chilli to this quality brew (100 grams per 50 litre keg) makes its presence known from the first sniff.
Beers were followed by shots of tasty Tobasco and soon waiters began serving finger foods with inspiration from around the globe, but each mini dish packed with hot stuff – beef vindaloo, southern fried chicken, pulled pork sliders, even going down the offal path, serving beef and chicken hearts doused in hot, hot chilli.
If you’d like to take a walk on the daring side and try some amazing morsels of food, all complemented by fine local beers, check out Beerland Chilli Week which is being hosted for the rest of this weekend at Northbridge Brewing Co and Whitfords Brewing Co, both venues proudly boasting their own brewing facilities on-site.
The Beerland venues will be running a Firehorse Chilli Pong competition that’s set to test the toughest of tongues. Based on traditional beer pong, teams will be invited to face off against one another in hope of sinking the most ping-pong balls into cups filled with virgin Bloody Mary’s doused in burning Firehorse chilli sauce.
Another new experience for 2018 includes the Beerland Chilli Week Passport Challenge. After registering for a passport, punters will be tested to undertake a series of challenges for a chance to win some awesome prizes, including tickets to Beerland’s Beer Clubs, Melbourne Cup and NYE events, as well as vouchers for use at either Beerland venue.
