Rainbow Crossing to emblazon Taylor Square in Sydney queer hub Darlinghurst

Sydney Rainbow Crossing cream magazine @2x

Oh, the many nights I crossed Taylor Square in Darlinghurst, Sydney, to get from one sordid club to the next. Clip-clopping in stack heels across a pretty tricky cross-section since it’s where Oxford, Bourke and Flinders Street meet.

Well just in case you don’t know where this hotspot is, Sydney City Council is getting out their paintbrushes and are set to decorate it in big bright rainbow stripes.

That’s right, five years after Sydney’s original rainbow crossing (albeit a little on the pastel side) was removed, spookily in the middle of the night, it’s now returning with a vengeance, with construction due to begin in October.

Said Lord Mayor Clover Moore, “Not only will this crossing be a colourful celebration of our LGBTQI community, but it will also be a trial of new sensors to give pedestrians as much crossing time as possible.”

Because safety and fabulousness should always come first.  Antonino Tati
