Joaquin Phoenix to play the next ‘Joker’ | Movie release date confirmed
After Heath Ledger’s intense (and insane) performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight, Joaquin Phoenix has some big shoes to fill when he stars as our favourite madman in Warner Bros. Joker movie.
Ahead of Comic-Con, which kicks off this weekend, Warner Bros. have confirmed the film’s release date to be October 4, 2019 and also hinted that the movie, directed by Todd Phillips, will possess a very ‘noir’ tone.
“At this stage the Joker film is expected to cost around $55 million to make. No word yet on how much of that Joaquin is getting.”
The most recent embodiment of the character was by Jared Leto in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and Leto has promised to return for that film’s sequel.
Warner Bros. is also apparently developing a standalone Joker movie for Leto, which might confuse the general public, but should certainly be clear enough for true fans of the Batman franchise. Antonino Tati
