Robert De Niro in talks to join ‘Joker’ cast

The buzz of Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend must have made its way across to Hollywood, with producers of next year’s hotly anticipated Joker movie announcing that Robert De Niro is in talks to take part.

De Niro will play a talk-show host who is a major instigator in making the Joker initially go mad.

The film’s script has a connection to De Niro’s classic cinematic hit King of Comedy (scene pictured above) about a failing comedian who kidnaps a TV host (Jerry Lewis) to barter for fast fame.

Back then, De Niro played the kidnapper, but the tables have turned and – to quote the title of a Massive Attack track on the Batman Forever soundtrack – it appears The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game… in a kooky kind of way.

Just last weekend an official release date for the Joker movie was revealed, this being October 4, 2019.
