There are few Australian classic painters whose work is as bold and bright as Pro Hart’s.
McKenzies Auctioneers is excited to present a rare collection of 19 original Pro Hart artworks to be offered at auction for genuine sale on Tuesday 27th November.
Pro Hart is one of Australia’s most famous artists, recognised by more Australians than any other Australian artist.
This rare collection of works has never previously been sold. Instead, they were all initially gifted by Pro to his friend, a priest, over a number of years; a buddy with whom Pro would discuss life, philosophy, religion and so on with.
McKenzies has sold many Pro Hart works over the years but this collection contains some very unique items. For example, lot 10 is a series of 18 small vignettes plus a signature panel, painted in 1985. All pieced together in one frame, they present an overview of the artist’s total range, with dragonflies, ants, waterbirds and landscapes all fit into the piece.
Says Peter McKenzie, “Pro Hart is one of Australia’s most famous artists, recognised by more Australians than any other Australian artist. We all remember him from his carpet ad when his cleaner exclaimed, “Mr Hart”, at the prospect of having to clean up [the] large dragonfly he had constructed on carpet using various foodstuffs.
“As he passed away some 12 years ago now, it is unlikely such a choice will be available in the foreseeable future.”
Pre-auction viewings will take place in the auctioneers’ rooms at 8 Stirling Road, Claremont from 11am–430pm on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November as well as Monday 26th November from 11am–5:30pm, or online at www.mckenziesauctioneers.com.au. Michael Mastess
